Dynamics 365 Licensing Guide

There’s an updated (June 2019) Dynamics 365 Licensing Guide. Perhaps the most interesting information is on page 2 where we get some details on upcoming releases (Customer Service Chat, Forms Pro, and Call Intelligence), a name change (AI for Sales becomes Sales Insight), and a new segment (DoD).

These changes are all expected in July or August. There are also amendments for default capacities throughout, the most important one being confirmation that Sales/Customer Service Professional licences do not count towards the 10 licence minimum for the Dynamics 365 Portal.

Dynamics 365 Business Central Licensing Guide

There’s an updated (May 2019) Dynamics 365 Business Central Licensing Guide with three main changes.

Firstly, there’s wording added on page 4 to confirm that there are no minimum licence purchase requirements, and that Essentials and Premium licences may not be mixed.

Then on page 5 there’s a link included to a document which gives further information on how the Team Members licence works in Business Central.

And finally, page 6 sees the addition of text confirming that Business Central includes three External Accountant licences.

Windows 10 Licensing Guide

There’s an updated (April 2019) Windows 10 Licensing Guide.

The only major change from the February 2019 version is the table on page 18 which is updated for the new names of the product editions and their availability through the different Volume Licensing programs.

Home Use Program Guide

There’s a new guide on the Home Use Program, aimed at those people who manage HUP benefits within a business. These days the benefits are managed through the Microsoft Store for Business, and the guide takes administrators through the steps needed to get set up for this, including using the Azure AD authentication and identity service. There are also instructions for inviting employees to use the Home Use Program, an overview of what employees will need to do on receiving the invitation, and a summary FAQ.

Windows 10 Licensing Guide

There’s an updated (February 2019) Windows 10 Licensing Guide. The main changes are a Per User Qualifying Operating Systems table added on page 7, and a section on Windows 10 Education Activation added on page 16.

Windows and SQL Server End of Support FAQ

Windows and SQL Server reach the end of mainstream support in July 2019 (SQL) and January 2020 (Windows). Customers who want to continue to run 2008/2008 R2 workloads will have the option of purchasing Extended Security Updates from 1 March, 2019.

There’s a new FAQ from Microsoft which is useful, and if you don’t want to read all 57 questions then focus on question  9 (pricing details), 34 (options for hosted environments), and 37 (how these ESUs will be delivered).

Updated Dynamics 365 Licensing Guide

There’s an updated (November 2018) Dynamics 365 Licensing Guide. The main changes are the addition of the Dynamics 365 AI for Sales app (page 15) and some extra clarity around the new Order Lines add-on (page 45). You’ll also notice that some fairly major restructuring has taken place.

There’s a new (October 2018) Dynamics 365 Licensing Guide which reflects the changes introduced with the Fall Update. There are changes to Team Members rights, Marketing contacts, and the minimum number of licences required for the included Dynamics 365 portal, and some new SKUs: Customer Service Professional, Microsoft Relationship Sales Solution/Solution Plus, Unified Order Operations – Order Lines, and Talent Comprehensive Hiring.
